The “Distance Keepers” versus Corona

Gradually, the employees are returning to their offices at the ERGO sites. However, one thing had to be guaranteed beforehand: the greatest possible protection. This is one of the tasks of the colleagues from Facility Management.

“Our role is to enable people to keep their distances – i.e. we are ‘Distance Keepers’ so to speak”, explains Martin Franze, Head of Construction Technology/Building Services in Hamburg. Plexiglass walls were erected especially in the service areas. Metres and metres of black and yellow lines have been stuck to the ground so that employees do not come too close to each other in times of Corona. New signs and warnings have been installed at the entrances.

In addition, Franze’s team ensures that highly frequented contact surfaces are cleaned at short regular intervals. Contact surfaces? Of course, there are many such surfaces. For example, in Hamburg they include lift panels, time recording devices, revolving doors, sanitary fittings, door handles or stair railings.

In recent weeks, task forces like Martin Franze’s have achieved a great deal at all ERGO locations. Their work can be seen all over the place: At the porter’s desk, in the lifts and in the casino area, to name but a few areas 

“Special times, special requirements”

Then at the end of April, there was the environmental audit in Hamburg, which also involved the Construction Technology Group. The site check was carried out via web conference with the envi-ronmental auditor, the corresponding site inspection via WhatsApp video transmission. “Special times, special requirements”, outlines the man from Hamburg briefly. “We adapted quickly.”
