Dowmann - Highly efficient engineered carbon removal

Dowmann, an innovative carbon removal company in Ireland, transforms waste biomass into valuable products like biochar, renewable fuel, and clean electricity. The team’s mission is to provide rapid, science-backed, and scalable carbon removal solutions.

The Dowmann Team (left to right), is made up of Paul Manning - Commercial Director, Robert Dowdall –Technical Director, and Cathal Moroney – Financial Director

Through pyrolysis, Dowmann converts biomass waste into biochar, a potent carbon storage solution. Biochar not only securely locks away carbon for the long term but also has versatile applications, benefiting soil health, wastewater treatment, and building materials. The renewable fuel and electricity generated contribute to steering the world away from fossil fuel dependence.

Dowmann champions positive climate impact by first reducing waste and then converting it into biochar, ensuring long-term carbon removal. Additional wins include decarbonising the electricity grid and heavy industries like cement and steel manufacturing.

The team combines over 50 years of entrepreneurial and business expertise, spanning technical engineering, commercial, and financial domains. With a proven track record in securing finance, driving sales, and commercialising technology, Dowmann is excited to do its part to advance carbon removal as quickly as possible. Over the next number of years, the team sees emerging opportunities for extracting novel bio-chemicals from within their process and has active R&D in this area, which is already showing early promise.

Dowmann is now poised for investment to establish its first production facility. With support from the Carbon Removal ClimAccelerator as well as from Munich Re and ERGO, the team evaluated project risk management strategies to enable a more rapid deployment of their solutions.
