NEG8 - Atmospheric carbon capture to fight climate change

NEG8

NEG8 is working on innovative Direct Air Capture (DAC) systems to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere and reverse climate change. NEG8 Carbon has evolved from pioneering research at Trinity College Dublin and University College Dublin into an active player in the fight against carbon emissions. Bridging the gap between academic research and real-world application, NEG8 efficiently extracts atmospheric CO₂, while continuing to identify the most effective DAC techniques of the future.

NEG8’s innovative DAC technology features modular, scalable 'plug-and-play' units, validated by a prototype in 2023. The companies’ DAC systems, equipped with dynamic controls and advanced adsorbents, are poised for large-scale operations. Focusing on efficiency and scalability, the team is gearing up for commercial deployment in early 2025, collaborating with geological sequestration firms for permanent CO₂ removal.

NEG8’s diverse, multi-disciplinary team, with global climate technology and business expertise, spans cultures including Ireland, Iraq, Spain, Poland, India and South Africa. Working from their Irish facility, the team shares a vision of capturing millions of tonnes of CO₂ by 2040, aspiring to be global DAC leaders.

Following a successful pilot in Waterford, Ireland, NEG8 is advancing its Capture, Permanent Removal and CDR (carbon dioxide removal) credit business model. In the Carbon Removal ClimAccelerator and with support from Munich Re and ERGO, the team honed its market strategy and deepened its understanding of DAC technology and CDR adoption risks.
