Tackling Climate Change Together
Tackling Climate Change Together
Treeconomy is a nature-based carbon-removal company. The team brings together technology, finance, and nature to tackle both the climate and biodiversity crisis. Treeconomy is developing expertise in remote monitoring and 3D modelling of forest sites, which allows baselining for natural capital recovery and calculations for carbon sequestration.
Treeconomy uses high-resolution satellites and drones to scan ecosystems. Machine learning and AI are applied to enable to provide accurate calculations on the above-ground biomass, and thus an estimation for carbon sequestration rooted in high-quality data. The primary use for this technology is on woodland creation schemes, but the Treeconomy team is expanding their technical capabilities for peatland and rewilding projects.
The team has diverse backgrounds, with specialist skills in financial analysis, carbon markets, forestry, machine learning, and computer vision. Together, they are striving for a world in which a tree in the ground is more valuable than a tree chopped down. Treeconomy aims to be a leader in using innovation to accelerate the regeneration of the natural world; to combat climate change, support biodiversity, and improve livelihoods.
Treeconomy has brought high-quality, tech-monitored offsets to the market. During the ClimAccelerator programme and with support from Munich Re and ERGO, the team wants to better understand how their data could be applied to predictive or financial use cases. Additionally, the team would like to explore the wider benefits of nature-based solutions bring beyond the removal of CO2.
