Russia's fairy tale has come to an end

Russia's summer fairy tale has come to an end – as this year's World Cup hosts, ERGO Russia's colleagues began with our #ERGOfansunited series and shared with us the anticipation and emotions of the whole country. After a gripping final, it is now time for a little résumé. Our colleague Olga Zharkova collected numerous direct quotes from the office in Moscow.

„An extraordinary victory for the Russian team against Spain, the unfortunate defeat in the match against Croatia and an incredible month in the Russian Federation – these are the future memory lanes to remember. Together with all other ERGO Group and Munich Re colleagues, we at ERGO Russia would like to look back on the great football atmosphere we experienced here during the last month!

We hope that our impressions will live on forever in all minds and hearts. To reinforce this, we have compiled some of the best social media postings and comments from our colleagues and want to share them with you. Of course, this is primarily about Russian victories over Spain and Egypt, but also, more generally, about one of the biggest national celebrations we have ever seen in Russia.  

If we finally summarize our feelings and thoughts about our lost quarterfinal match against Croatia, we can say: we still are and remain proud of our squad. They really fought as a team, played together well and even scored a goal in the last 6 minutes of the game. Maybe in the end, all that was missing was a little bit of luck.

So that was our big summer happening. A joint celebration. A colourful international football carni-val. An event that not only attracted tourists and united them with the whole world, but also changed us as a country and a nation. A tournament with a Russian team that showed us how to stick together that inspired children to play football, to do sports and to win in life!“
