Innovations in climate protection

Promoting ideas

EIT Climate-KIC (Knowledge & Innovation Community) is the European Union’s largest public-private climate initiative. Together with Munich Re and ERGO, EIT Climate-KIC has set the ambition to enable transformational start-ups to accelerate through radical collaboration and shared resources. The collaboration started in 2017 with the promotion of clean-tech startups and focused on carbon removal solutions in the ClimAccelerator since 2021.

Carbon Removal Accelerator

Start-ups that give us hope

After an initial phase in which, among other things, the start-ups' business models were validated, teams were selected for in-depth support in the second phase. The decision was based on various criteria such as market size, business model and potential for climate impact. In phase 2, Munich Re and ERGO supported the founders with grants and mentoring. The focus was on evaluating business ideas, identifying customers and preparing start-ups for investments.

Overview of the Start-up Selection Stage 2

The Carbon Removal ClimAccelerator announced in December 2023 its selection for Stage 2 of the programme. Eight promising start-ups from five countries continued to be supported over the next months to further develop their solutions for long-term carbon removal and its permanent storage.

Further information can be found in the //next Magazine.

From innovative ideas to market-ready solutions

The start-ups supported thus far

Their creative solutions are as different as the start-ups themselves. But there is one thing they all have in common: Their applications for support have been selected in the Side Call of Climate-KIC and Munich Re/ERGO.

From innovative ideas to market-ready solutions: this page provides an overview of the start-ups supported thus far. Find out more about their exciting business models and the teams behind them on the details pages.
