Deutsche Krankenversicherung AG (DKV) and the health and long-term care insurance units at Deutsche Rentenversicherung Knappschaft-Bahn-See KNAPPSCHAFT (social insurance for seafarers) have been working together since 1st of January 2022. The partnership will allow DKV supplementary and complementary health covers to be offered to insureds at KNAPPSCHAFT.

“The focus of the new partnership is on the 1.5 million people insured with KNAPPSCHAFT and their family members, who will in future benefit from first-class DKV health covers,” explained Ursula Deschka, member of the Board of Management of DKV Deutsche Krankenversicherung AG and of ERGO Deutschland AG, with responsibility at the latter for the health segment. “The cooperation will also offer both partners great opportunities in terms of customer loyalty and acquiring new customers,” she added.

“As a statutory health insurance company, we are complying in full with our legal mandate and protecting our customers in every set of circumstances with good health insurance,” said Bettina am Orde, Managing Director of KNAPPSCHAFT. “In addition, with the cooperation and the services provided by DKV, it was important to us to be able to offer our insureds additional covers under favourable conditions if they required them.”

Benefits for KNAPPSCHAFT insureds

Under the terms of the partnership with DKV, insureds with KNAPPSCHAFT can now select from a range of product modules to create the ideal supplementary covers for themselves and their family members, all under favourable conditions. These include supplementary dental, hospital and outpatient covers. Moreover, insureds who are travelling can take out DKV covers that apply worldwide for any health costs incurred on short trips lasting up to eight weeks. The product portfolio is further complemented by additional tariffs to cover nursing costs and income protection in the event of long-term occupational disability. The requirement for a waiting period has been waived for all tariffs with health-related issues, meaning that cover is available from day one. Under the terms of the cooperation, a guarantee was agreed to accept all KNAPPSCHAFT insureds.

A partnership of equals

KNAPPSCHAFT is one of the largest statutory health insurance companies in Germany, with around 1.5 million insureds. With almost 3.6 million insureds, DKV is market leader in the supplementary insurance segment, offering its customers an extensive range of products.
