Next steps

If you apply online, find out what happens next

1. Confirmation of receipt

Once you have uploaded your application to our applicant portal, you will automatically receive an e-mail confirming receipt of your application. We will confirm receipt of your application by e-mail within 24 hours.

2. Response

Our recruiting team and the specialist departments will review your documents. You can expect an first response within 2 to 4 weeks. Applicants for an apprenticeship position will receive an invitation to take our application test. If the selection process takes longer than planned, you will receive an interim response from us.

The duration of the application process depends on the position to be filled. As the level of seniority and expertise increases, we conduct several rounds of interviews, so the entire application process can take up to 7-13 weeks. In general, it is important to us to inform all applicants promptly and to communicate quickly, even in the case of rejections, in order to provide clarity.

3. Telephone interview or personal interview

You have convinced us and we would like to meet you. We will invite you to either a personal interview or a telephone interview. You will talk to the recruiter and the manager about your individual entry opportunities, your skills and your professional experience. Convince us, show us your effectiveness and which skills you would like to develop further with us. What do you expect from us as an employer? Use the interview to ask questions as well.

4. Second personal interview

Your first interview went well. At the second appointment, we will clarify any outstanding questions or include another discussion partner. We also often have specific or organisational questions that we can discuss in more detail during this interview.

5. Employment

At this point, we are convinced that you are the right person for the job and we would like to have you on our team. We will send you an employment offer and look forward to receiving your acceptance.

6. Onboarding

When you join our team, we can't wait to get things moving with you. Our onboarding programme will help you settle in, meet new colleagues and get to know each other. With a range of welcome events, digital training and discussion formats, we offer you an exciting start.

General application questions

Please apply online via our application portal. Go to the job ad and click on the online link under ‘Apply online now’. It takes 10-15 minutes to complete. Our application process is streamlined, with the CV being the only mandatory field.

We only consider online applications submitted through our applicant portal. Online applications have the advantage of giving us direct access to your data, enabling us to respond quickly. And you save time and money.

You will automatically receive a confirmation email as soon as your application has been uploaded to our applicant portal. Our recruiting team and the relevant departments will review your documents. You can expect an initial response from us within two to four weeks. Applicants for an apprenticeship will receive an invitation to take our application test. If the selection process takes longer than planned, you will receive an interim reply from us.

Our application process is quite short. Based on our experience, you will need 10 to 15 minutes to fill in your personal details.

You can upload further documents (certificates, cover letters, etc.) under the item ‘Attachments’.

Yes, we have set the maximum file size (50 MB) to five categories, each with 10 MB in our applicant management tool.

Once we have reviewed all the documents, we will make a pre-selection of suitable candidates. The selected candidates will then be invited to an initial interview. We will invite those applicants who have convinced us in the first interview to a second interview. When we have found the right person for the job, we will make them an offer.

You will talk to the specialist department manager and the recruiter about your opportunities at ERGO. During the mutual exchange, you and we can ask questions, e.g. about tasks, the team, skills, professional experience or prospects in the company. Be well prepared for the interview and keep in mind why you want to join ERGO. This is an opportunity for us to find out more about you, your background and your reasons for applying.

Absolutely, as long as you travel by train (2nd class). Please let us know in advance if you need to use other means of transport.

This depends on the position. As the level of seniority and expertise increases, we conduct several rounds of interviews, so the process can take up to 13 weeks. In general, we aim to inform all applicants promptly and to be clear and quick about any rejections.

Use the covering letter to explain why you are interested in the position, what inspires you, what skills and expertise you can offer, what makes you stand out and why you would be a good fit for our company. The covering letter should be no longer than one A4 page and written in the language of the job ad.

Your CV should show the relevant stages in your career to date and be divided into sections with dates (e.g. academic career, professional experience, knowledge). The CV should not be longer than two A4 pages. Depending on your level of experience, it is important to focus on your most recent achievements. Check which qualifications are required for the position and make sure that it is clear that you have the qualifications.

These include A-level and university certificates, certificates and additional qualifications, proof of stays abroad and references from previous employers and internships.

You can enclose an application photo, but it is not a requirement. If you decide to enclose a photo, make sure it was taken professionally.

We want to get to know you better, so please feel free to ask us questions. Reflect on what interests you, what is still unclear, what content you would like to know more about (e.g. workplace, benefits, home office, team). It is to your advantage to research our company in advance. We want to take the opportunity to get to know you personally. Why are you interested in this position? What are your expectations?

We get to know each other better in the personal interview. Take the opportunity to find out whether we are a good match. Feel free to ask us questions. This is the only way for you to get an idea of what working with us will be like and whether the position meets your expectations.

Tips for students applying for internships

Go to our job board. We offer internships in a range of areas, including accounting, actuarial science/mathematics, consulting, engineering, finance, IT/cyber, innovation, life insurance, legal, marketing/communications, risk management, strategy, underwriting and sales.

To apply, you only need your CV and matriculation certificate; you can optionally upload a cover letter and references.

The duration of a compulsory internship at a university depends on the respective guidelines (usually four to six months). Voluntary internships are possible from eight weeks upwards.

Matriculation at a university is an important requirement. To ensure that the work offers a well-founded insight, a minimum duration of twelve weeks is essential to us.

A maximum of 20 hours per week. During the semester break, up to 38 hours per week are possible.
