DFB sponsor ERGO on the 2022 football World Cup

Official DFB picture with national players standing in a fictitious stadium, the pitch in front of them shows the ERGO logo.

Through its partnership with the German Football Association (DFB), ERGO will also be in the public eye in Germany as a sponsor and supporter of the German national team during the 2022 World Cup.

As a DFB partner, ERGO continuously positions itself with various sponsorships at international matches as well as in selected competitions, including during the 2022 men’s World Cup in Qatar. ERGO entered into a long-term partnership with the DFB before the 2016 German cup. Furthermore, since January 2022, ERGO has also been an official partner of the German Football Association’s men’s and women’s national teams, the U21 squad as well as the DFB Academy and amateur football. Football remains the most popular sport in Germany and in many other countries around the world: it thrills and excites spectators like no other sport can. No other sport brings so many people together.
That said, our position is clear and unwavering: human rights are universal and indivisible. Major football events and the attention they attract always provide a stage for social issues, also at international level. ERGO thus very much welcomes the critical debate on the human rights situation in the country hosting the World Cup, on the bidding process and on the competition’s sustainability. Our Group is following this discussion very closely and is in close contact with the DFB on these matters. In this context, ERGO supports the DFB’s various initiatives, such as the “Future Leaders in Football”* project, the DFB Human Rights Policy* and the recent DFB congress “Sport and Human Rights: Measures before, during and after the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022”*.

Protecting human rights is a natural part of ERGO’s value-based corporate governance. ERGO has made a clear commitment to the safeguarding of human rights, as set out in the UN Principles on Business and Human Rights, the International Human Rights Charter, the UN Global Compact, and the International Labour Organisation Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work. ERGO stands for a culture of diversity characterised by respect, equal opportunities and sustainability.
