The ERGO Innovation Lab, an incubator for new ideas and spin-ins at the ERGO Group, and Hamburg-based technology and trend specialists Space and Lemon Innovations have released a joint report on tech trends. The report, titled “What’s up next – Technology trends to inspire your next move. Insurance and beyond” and published in a coffee table book format, offers concise coverage of seven tech-based developments that could also become relevant for insurers in the next 12 to 36 months. These include AI-based agents, digital twins, and humanoid robots.

According to Georgina Neitzel, Head of the Innovation Lab: “At the ERGO Innovation Lab, we work on a daily basis with new technologies that will shape the insurance world of tomorrow. We assess the opportunities and challenges they entail and, if they meet with a positive response, we test them prior to potential scaling to the corporate level in ‘Proofs of Concept’ with our departments. By releasing this joint publication, our goal is not only to provide readers with practical information on a selection of exciting technological applications. We also want to share inspirations on how they could potentially be transferred to insurance products and processes.”

According to Markus Neumann, CEO of Space and Lemon Innovations: “In an increasingly complex world – and not just digitally speaking – all companies have a duty to ensure their own resilience. We’ve been helping major firms do so for nearly a decade, using a tried and tested process, by ‘avoiding hype’, and with a positive and forward-looking mindset. That’s a stance we share with the ERGO Innovation Lab. Through the joint trend report, we address all future-oriented decision-makers and interested parties looking for valuable insights into the latest trends. Close to the business and the opportunities presented by new technologies. And doing without a crystal ball.”

The report “What’s up next – Technology trends to inspire your next move. Insurance and beyond” is the outcome of workshops organised by the ERGO Innovation Lab and the trend agency Space and Lemon Innovations, which were held on a regular basis throughout 2024. At these workshops, more than 30 tech trends with short-term and medium-term impacts were analysed. Seven were selected for inclusion in the report.
