The “Football despite disability” inclusive football tournament of sports club 1. SC Gröbenzell was again delivered by colleagues from Munich Re and ERGO and was a great success. The DFB Cup tour also made a stop there.
Commitment, willingness to help and heart – these are the characteristics that sustain charitable engagement. Not least though, resources are also needed to get social projects off the ground. This year, the inclusive football tournament in Gröbenzell, to the west of Munich, once again received financial support from Munich Re, as part of its Social Engagement Awards. In this context, the DFB Cup tour powered by ERGO was an exceptional attraction for players and spectators alike.
Inclusive squads and teams from the whole of Bavaria took part in the tournament, simply to have fun and play football together. Winning was not the priority. The young players – with and without disabilities – thus sent out a clear signal. A signal for inclusive sport.
“We would like to promote inclusive football and increase its visibility. For many people, football is simply a great passion, regardless of whether they live with or without limitations”, says Christian Mausbach, project manager, trainer of the inclusive team of 1. SC Gröbenzell, and a consultant at Munich Re. “By holding tournaments like the one in Gröbenzell, we can raise awareness of inclusive sport and gain the support of more associations, sportsmen and sportswomen.”
“For us, the tournament in Gröbenzell was a nice pilot to also use the DFB Cup’s charisma to promote inclusive sport”, adds Jochen Falk from ERGO Marketing, who was responsible for organising the DFB Cup tour. “There are various possible ways in which, together with the DFB, we can campaign for inclusive football in the future too.”
Result of the event: An exclamation mark for togetherness in sport. And a clear victory for inclusion.
